The 2003 NBA Draft happened on June 23 and on that day, the media and fans began pitting Carmelo Anthony against his high school freind, LeBron James.

They wanted the young stars to be rivals. They wanted LeBron to be the protagonist and Anthony the antagonist.

The media would praise LeBron and give less praise to Anthony, saying that though he was good, he wasn’t as skilled and well-rounded as his contemporary.

Hearing and understanding what was going on, Anthony, on his first match-up with LeBron, set out to prove the NBA world wrong. Though, the result wasn’t exactly what he had anticipated.
