Steph Curry has been having a fantastic season.
He kicked it off with a couple of 40-point games and has been rolling ever since.
At 35 years old, he’s averaging 27 points per game on 45 percent shooting.
But this article isn’t about that; it’s not about his basketball skills or performance thus far for the Golden State Warriors.
It’s about the possibility of him running for president.
While promoting his new children’s book, I Am Extraordinary, on CBS Mornings, he told Jericka Duncan that he’d consider running for president (or, more accurately, starting a career in politics) one day because he’ll be able to use his influence for good.
Via The Score:
"I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in the way that I can. So if that's the way to do it - I'm not saying the presidency ... but if politics is the way that you can create meaningful change, or if there's another way outside of politics that we can do."
However, Curry added that this next chapter won’t be for a while.
So, Stephen Curry, the President… I’m sure he’ll assist many people with his policies. And I’m sure he’ll help the country’s economy rebound. And his approval rating will probably be as high as his free-throw percentage. Curry becoming President of the United States is a long shot but I’m sure it’s nothing he’s never attempted to shoot before.
Okay, jokes aside there have been a handful of former NBA players to join politics.
Bill Bradley is a 2-time NBA champion and was a U.S. senator from 1979 to 1997 and ran for president in 2000. Dave Bing was the 1967-68 NBA scoring champion and was the Mayor of Detroit from 2009-2013. Kevin Johnson was a 5-time All-NBA player and was the mayor of Sacramento from 2008-2016.
I say all this to say that if Curry wanted a career in politics following his NBA career, he has a good chance.
And I’m sure he can do a lot of good for his community if he does follow in the footsteps of the players I mentioned.
