Chris Paul Joining the Spurs?
News from the grapevine suggests the Spurs might target CP3 in the offseason.
Not to be foul, but I was sitting on the john earlier today and was wondering, “Where is Chris Paul going next season.”
I thought of a bunch of potential teams and the reasons why he would join them.
“He could link up with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in Oklahoma again. The Thunder are a fantastic young team that could use some vet experience, especially in the playoffs.”
“He could also re-join the Los Angeles Clippers. They seem to like to pick up older superstars and they’re good.”
“He could also join the Los Angeles Lakers, but I don’t think he’ll make much of a difference there.”
“He could join the Denver Nuggets. They were the champions last season and will probably win it again this season. And they could use another playmaker off the bench.”
And then finally, I thought about him joining the San Antonio Spurs.
”Joining the Spurs would be nice. I’ve always wanted to see him play under Gregg Popovich’s system.”
“But,” I thought to myself, “that probably won’t happen because he’ll probably want to ring chase next season.”
However, after I relieved myself and went to do research for this article, I came across a report that said CP3 might actually rock a black and silver uniform next season.
According to the article, Marc Stein wrote in his newsletter that the Spurs might bring Paul on to guide and pair with Victor.
Via NBC Sports:
“A potential team to watch, should Paul and the Warriors part ways, is San Antonio. Among the early personnel rumbles in circulation: The Spurs could emerge as a Paul suitor if they decide to pursue some veteran know-how on a short-term contract basis to furnish presumptive Rookie of the Year winner Victor Wembanyama with more seasoned help in Year 2.”
But as awesome as this would be, I don’t think it’s going to happen.
The Spurs are not going to be contenders next season (or the chances are low) and I think that’s a prerequisite for Paul. He still wants that ring.
So, CP3 is most likely going to join whoever wins the title this year or the team that loses in the Finals.
But where do you think Chris Paul is going to end up next season? Think about it next time your on the john.
