Edwards, Timberwolves Beat the Daylight Out of the Nuggets in Game 2
Can the Nuggets come back?
Okay, I did not see this coming.
Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves are pummeling the Denver Nuggets.
In Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals, Edwards led his team to a 106-80 victory with 27 points on 66.7 percent shooting and seven assists.
However, the beatdown of the reigning champs was a team effort.
Everyone on the Minnesota Timberwolves roster locked up their assignment with tight, pesty defence that led to Denver committing 16 turnovers.
Additionally, they made every shot attempt difficult and only allowed the Nuggets to make 35 percent of their shots.
After the game, Charles Barkley told the Inside Guys on TNT that Minnesota was the best defensive team he'd ever seen.
"We saw one of the best defensive teams I’ve ever seen. The stats don’t lie… Even without Rudy, this is one of the best defensive teams I’ve ever seen.”
I felt bad for the Nuggets because they looked lost the entire game.
Normally, Nikola Jokic, a two-time MVP and last season’s Finals MVP, has a breeze on offence. He’s able to score on most defenders with his nifty moves and if he can’t, he’d just use his high IQ to make the right pass.
But he had trouble getting on a roll due to the tough defence.
He scored 16 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished eight assists. But he only made 38.9 percent of his shots.
For comparison, Jokic averaged 26 points on 58 percent shooting in the regular season.
Jamal Murray, a key part of the Nuggets offense, couldn't get anything off in this game either.
He struggled to make shots the entire contest and only scored eight points on 17 percent shooting.
After this dominant win, the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are now 2-0 in away games, look like they're going to be the victors of this series and potentially the Finals as well.
But what do you think the final results will be?
