First Option? John Wall Don’t Care! He Just Wants to Win
John Wall is okay not being Batman -so long as it gets him a ring.
Ever since 2010, John Wall has led an NBA team.
He did an excellent job and was rewarded with money and accolades. He bathed in his success.
But now that he has been an All-Star, an All-NBA player, and an All-Defensive player, he has his eyes set on something that he hasn’t been to attain yet.
And that thing is a championship title.
But to win a ring, Wall knows that, at this stage in his career, he isn’t going to be able to be successful by being the lone ranger. So he is putting his ego aside and isn’t seeking to be “Batman” anymore (nor does he care if he is).
He just wants to win and is willing to do whatever to wrap a gigantic diamond-encrusted gold ring on his finger.
Via ESPN:
"I don't have to do it every night, I don't have to be Batman every night for us to win," Wall said on Saturday at the Las Vegas Summer League. "That's the ultimate goal for me is [at] this part of my career, I don't want to have to be the Batman every night to try to win. On our team that we have, I think anyone can be Batman."
Earlier this month, Wall joined the star-studded Los Angeles Clippers after being bought out by the Houston Rockets.
He decided to join Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and the rest of the Clippers because he felt this was a team that had a good chance at winning it all and that they had players that could take the load off of him.
Wall said that a lot of teams tried to acquire him. But he ultimately went with the Clippers because he didn’t want to “carry” the other teams.
"I really didn't care about all the other teams," Wall said about those that were interested in him before he decided to join the Clippers. "The other teams are great, and I'm glad teams wanted to come after me, but I kind of looked at the picture of like, where can I go [where] I don't have to be the John Wall from 2016 and have to carry the load and do all those [things] and have the pressure on me. I think [LA] was missing a piece of having a point guard, and it's a great situation for me to be there.”
He also added that by being the third option, he is going to eat because not many tertiary defenders are going to be able to guard him well.
(To remind you how beastly he is, in 2020-21, the most recent season that Wall played, he averaged 20.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 1.1 steals.)
"You tell me the third-best defender is going to have to guard me? Good luck."
