Here’s What’s Amazing About LeBron Passing Kareem on All-Time Scoring List
LeBron James is now the All-Time Points Leader.
LeBron James is now the All-Time Points Leader.
He passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record on Saturday, as he scored 26 points to lift his total (regular season and playoffs) to 44,157 points.
The amazing thing about this is that he doesn’t even like scoring. He’s a pass-first player who just happened to be so dominant at scoring that he had to do it to help his teams win.
Additionally, he’s also not the most skilled shooter in the league.
Now, that statement, I know, triggered a lot of you.
“Well, if he’s not skilled then how come he has so many points, you jerk-ass?!” a lot of you are thinking out loud.
First off, I just want to say that when I say he’s not the most skilled scorer, what I mean is that he doesn’t have a lot of scoring moves. His scoring isn’t as clean as some elite scorers.
You can agree with that, right?
If you put a clip of LeBron scoring beside a clip of, say, Kobe Bryant scoring, you can see that Kobe has way more moves and skill. He can do more than LeBron when he’s working to get a bucket.
Which makes LeBron’s offence that much more amazing.
Why?
Because LeBron has to combine his intelligence and decision-making, and athleticism to efficiently put points on the board.
He has to think everything through on a dime and then follow through.
He has to decide which one of his limited offensive moves can get him the basket or if passing it to a teammate is the better choice.
Now, I just want to put it out there that this comparison isn’t a diss to Kobe. I’m not in any way saying that his basketball I.Q. is low.
I mean how can it be? He’s a legend.
But what I am saying is that he doesn’t have to think as much as LeBron -Kobe had so many moves in his arsenal to counter whatever the defence threw at him.
LeBron doesn’t. So, he has to use his big brain to plan out his attack first.
And this is why it’s so amazing that he’s the all-time points leader (because he achieved it with limited moves and mainly with I.Q. and athleticism).
So yeah…
