You know how Chris Paul does a lot of annoying things on the hardwood to manipulate what his opponents do?
Like, he’ll use his eyes to trick his defender, or he’ll call fake screens or throw fake passes. Or he’ll bait opponents to foul him (personal or technical).
For example, I remember this one play when he was on the Phoenix Suns, where he was on a fastbreak and pretended to pass the ball to a teammate behind him.
He got his defender good, too! Unfortunately, he botched the layup after the fancy move.
CP3 is the king of this stuff and I’m sure it irritates the hell out of his opponents. And I’m sure that many of his opponents are glad he’s in the twilight years of his career. They will soon not have to deal with his shenanigans anymore.
Or will they?
Because, apparently, the New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson is just as annoying as Paul is.
On the Backyard Podcast with D’Angelo Russell, Knicks’ big man Karl-Anthony Towns and the Brooklyn Nets’ Russell said that Brunson also sets little, annoying mental traps to manipulate the play (like CP3).
“Brunson’s a modern-day Chris Paul. He got way more game -no offence- but he like is a modern-day Chris Paul. Bro, the way he manipulate the game. As a lefty, I was just talking to them about it -like I really learned a lot from dude,” Russell said.
After hearing Russell make this claim, I was surprised.
“Brunson manipulates the game like CP3?” I thought to myself.
But then I recalled this one play from 2024 when Brunson called a fake screen on the Sacramento Kings’ Keon Ellis -where he pointed his fingers to signal a screen and as soon as Ellis turned his head to check for the non-existent screen, Brunson bolted for the basket- and I was like, “Yeah, he is just as annoying as CP3.”
I’m not sure if Brunson will ever reach Chris Paul’s IQ and annoying-ness -because they have different styles- but I hope he does. These plays are so funny to see.
Do you think Brunson manipulates the game like CP3?

Random Thought
You know what, with all this drama going around, I’m going to be a hater, too.
First off, how is LeBron James good at basketball?
This man struggled to extend his double-digit scoring streak to 1,283 games. 1,283 isn’t even that big of a number. If I were to divide that by 82 games a season, that’s just 15.6 seasons.
So, you’re telling me LeBron is the greatest basketball player ever because he was able to score at least 10 points a game, every single game he played, for nearly 16 NBA seasons?
Come on!
Second, how is Nikola Jokic good at basketball?
This guy misses 5 games because of an ankle impingement and then comes back and records a triple-double.
What skilled player does that? He scored 39 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.
“Wow! He’s so good!”
Really? He didn’t even get a steal or a block! And he only made 64 percent of his field goals and 50 percent of his 3-pointers.
Puh-lease.
These guys are not talented basketball players.
Just kidding!
