Kelsey Plum is Having One Hell of a Season!
The Las Vegas Aces’ Kelsey Plum is on her way to being one of the best.
When Kelsey Plum was drafted into the WNBA with the first overall pick back in 2017, many viewed her as just a sharpshooter.
Why?
Because she came in as the all-time leading scorer in PAC-12 history. She also scored a career-high 57 points in her senior year. And she averaged 31.7 points per game that year, too.
She was a talented shooter in college. Many wanted to shoot the ball like her.
But her game didn’t translate that well in her first few years in the pro league.
Points-wise, she only averaged 8.5, 9.5, and 8.6, respectively, in her first 3 seasons in the WNBA. Her field goal percentage wasn’t that great either.
But something spectacular happened in 2022, her fifth year in the league.
Her team, the Las Vegas Aces, got a new head coach, Becky Hammon, who somehow unleashed Plum’s full game.
In 25 games thus far this year, she is averaging 20.3 points on 44 percent shooting, 5.5 assists, and 1.1 steals.
Plum’s improved numbers led to her being voted into the WNBA All-Star game for the first time, where she dominated with 30 points and won the All-Star MVP award.
Via Seattle Times:
“It was a lot of fun,” Plum said. “This is for the fans and this is to reach and expose people who maybe haven’t seen the W. What a way to send off Syl and Sue. Personally, I wanted to go out and have a ton of fun. Shots started to fall so it’s really fun when that happens. But regardless, of that I was just going to play and have a ton of joy out there.”
Additionally, her phenomenal play got her a two-year contract extension with the Aces, where she is “thrilled” to be and hopes to bring a championship title to soon.
Via the WNBA:
“Kelsey Plum is a generational talent, and one of the hardest working athletes I have ever known,” said [Aces GM Natalie] Williams. “Her preparation and work ethic are second to none. Kelsey has the ability to impact the game in so many facets, and with the great mentorship of Coach Becky Hammon, she is proving herself to be one the best guards in the WNBA. We are thrilled to re-sign her, and strengthen our incredibly talented core group.”
As the title says, Kelsey Plum is having one hell of a season.
Here’s to her finishing it off strong and continuing to get better and better as her career goes on!
