Kevin Huerter Is Balling Right Now And KD Is Amazed At His Game
Kevin Durant compared the Sacramento Kings’ Kevin Huerter to some great shooters in the league.
Kevin Huerter is off to a great start this season and he’s getting his roses.
After dropping 19 points on 70 percent shooting on the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 15, and helping the Sacramento Kings blow out the Nets 153-121, his opponent, Kevin Durant, had nothing to do but praise the young shooting guard.
On The ETCs podcast, Durant said that Huerter is playing at a high level right now, where he’s getting buckets like Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
"Kevin Huerter, right now, he's playing like Klay, Steph. The way he coming off the handoff, shooting the basketball right now. If you're not a basketball fan and locked in on the league, you gotta watch how Kevin Huerter is shooting this ball right now. He in the 50s.”
Durant also added that sometimes stats lie about how good a player is. But when it came to Huerter, the scouting report didn’t exaggerate his skill level.
“And when you go through scout, you hear all these stats, and everybody just seem way better than what they are. But Kevin Huerter shooting 7 threes a game and they all at 50 percent. When you hear that and then you watch the clips and film of how he shooting, it’s just like ‘oh sh*t, we in for a long night.’”
In 17 games this season, “The Red Velvet” is averaging just under 17 points per game on 50 percent shooting. Additionally, he’s averaging 49.6 percent from beyond the arc.
But Huerter didn’t always put up numbers like this.
Last season, when he was with the Atlanta Hawks, he averaged 12.1 points per game on 45.4 percent shooting.
I say this to say that his game has improved and we should be paying attention to him.
However, I’m not entirely sure how he got better -maybe it’s the new team or maybe he’s entering his prime- but it sure is fun to watch his development.
Let’s hope he continues to shoot the ball like a stud so that the Kings can finally end their playoff drought.
