Matt Barnes Says Vince Carter is Most Gifted Player He Played With
Is Vinsanity a super-athlete?
Vince Carter, who’s heading into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in August, was one of the craziest dunkers in the game.
He was explosive and creative. He was able to dunk with power and grace (as you can tell from the 2000 NBA Dunk Contest).
But even though he was known as a dunker, Carter was able to do so much more.
So much so, in fact, that his former teammate Matt Barnes believes he is one of the most talented ballers in history.
Appearing on Podcast P with Paul George, Barnes told the hosts that his former teammate had the most God-given talent out of any player who played in his generation.
“[Vince Carter] was skilled. He was just one of the most -I think- God-gifted athletes I’ve ever seen but then he worked and was very skilled too. I mean, again, he can shoot jump shots with his left hand that look like his right hand. I can barely do anything left-handed.
“He was just one of them dudes that can launch a football, launch a basketball and it was big-ass hands that just can dunk and jump, and catch it off the rim. He was just different… Vince worked hard but he had a lot of God-given sh-t you can’t train for.”
Final Thoughts
In his prime, Carter was damn near unstoppable.
If a defender pushed up and pressured him, he’d blow by them and attack the basket with a nasty dunk or flashy layup. And if a defender gapped him, he’d pop and sink a jump shot or fade away over their outreached arms.
VC played in the NBA for 22 seasons and averaged 16.7 points on 43.5 percent shooting, 4.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1 steal per game.
