Nuggets Win First Championship, Ever
The Denver Nuggets have been around for 47 years and have finally won a championship title.
If you haven’t heard the big news yet, you probably don’t follow the NBA.
And if that statement is true, then that begs the question as to why you are subscribed to this newsletter, seeing how it is an NBA newsletter.
Also, if you don’t know what happened, then you’re probably the type of person that doesn’t read the subject of a newsletter, which is bad because of spam and phishing.
But jokes aside, the news is that the Denver Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat and have won their first-ever NBA title.
It took them five games to get the victory.
Nikola Jokic won the Finals MVP award (big surprise) as he led the Nuggets with 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists.
I’m sure you’ve seen all the jazz somewhere online, so instead of regurgitating the news cycle, I’m going to share with you some fun nuggets (sorry) about the series that I found on Twitter:
Jokic is the first center since Shaquille O’Neal to win the Finals’ MVP award.
He’s also the first player in NBA history to lead the playoffs in total points, assists, and rebounds.
The Joker is the sixth international player to be deemed the NBA Finals’ MVP
Jamaal Murray is the fourth player in NBA history to average 20-plus points and 10-plus assists in the Finals. He suffered a major injury in 2020-21 and missed the entirety of the following season and doubted his importance to the team. He came back in 2022-23 and proved his worth to himself and the world.
Jeff Green aka “Uncle Jeff” gets his first NBA championship. Many teams didn’t want him after he had open heart surgery in 2012.
Journeyman Ish Smith is also a champ.
Christian Braun has won back-to-back championships. He won an NCAA championship last year, and this year, he won an NBA championship.
The Nuggets are the third team to go at least 16-4 in the playoffs, joining the 2007 San Antonio Spurs and 2017 Golden State Warriors.
This doesn’t have to do with the Nuggets, but Udonis Haslem played his final NBA game in Game 3 of this series.
Final Thoughts
So, there you have it.
The Nuggets finally won their first title in franchise history and I’m stoked for them.
Are you? And if not, who were you cheering for?
