Should Paul George Have Made a Return this Season?
Was it the right decision for Paul George to come back?
The Los Angeles Clippers’ Paul George was out since late December with an elbow injury.
Surprisingly, the team fared well without him and their other superstar, Kawhi Leonard.
The Clippers are sitting pretty at 8th place in the Western Conference (higher than the Los Angeles Lakers) and are slated to compete in the play-in tournament.
Which brings me to my question: should Paul George have come back?
I ask this because I don’t think him returning would help the Clippers’ chances of winning a title. And if they’re not going to win a title (or go deep in the playoffs), is it worth it for him to come back and risk another injury?
I really don’t know (but the answer is probably yes because they are professional competitors and enjoy competing).
However, it’s not all bad if he comes back.
He can use this time to condition himself and get acquainted with his team again, which I think will be beneficial for the Clippers next season.
Also, the Clippers are in this weird place where tanking won’t benefit them. They’re too high in the standings to get a top draft pick.
The highest pick they can get is probably somewhere between 11-15 (and don’t get it twisted, you can absolutely get a solid player in one of those spots, like Kawhi, but it’s unlikely).
So, it’s probably smarter for them to just go out there and disrupt the playoffs while trying to bring home a title.
Hey, would ya look at that? I answered my own question. I guess writing really does help with the thought process.
Anywhoo, do you think PG, who played phenomenally in his return, should have come back this season? And what do you think the chances of the Clippers winning the NBA title are?
