On March 24, 2017, the Phoenix Suns’ sophomore Devin Booker did something very few NBA players have achieved -he scored 70 points in a single game.
By sinking all those buckets, he became the sixth player in league history to score 70 or more points in a regular-season game, and at the time, the youngest to do so as well.
“That bull got game @DevinBook . A light 70 piece mcnugget with sweet and spicy sauce,” CJ McCollum tweeted following the matchup.
Booker was extraordinary in this game. The Suns’ guard just clicked on all cylinders offensively and the Boston Celtics couldn’t do anything to slow him down.
He attacked the basket, splashed pull-up jumpers in defenders’ faces, sank a handful of catch-and-shoot 3s, and made a bunch of free-throws.
He ended the game making 21-40 shots. He also made 24-26 free-throws.
A few weeks after his performance, he told Slam he was just in the zone.
“When you’re in a zone like that, your mind is blank. I’m sure everyone’s been in that zone before that’s played basketball where you make a couple shots in a row—obviously might not be 70 points—but you get in that zone where you just can’t miss and your mind is blank. You just feel like you’re at home in your comfortable gym just doing shoot around. It was a crazy moment for me. I think that was the starting point of my career now. I feel like my name’s out there and now I just have to build on that.”

Unfortunately, his big game for the Suns was spoiled by a 130-120 loss to the Celtics.
