The Grizzlies Did Dillon Brooks Dirty
The Grizzlies made it public that Dillon Brooks will not return to the team.
Look, I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t like Dillon Brooks.
He talks too much, he’s kinda arrogant, and he’s a pest on the court. He not only agitates his opponents, but he also agitates me.
However, he is a good basketball player and did give it his all for the Memphis Grizzlies, and they didn’t have to do him wrong.
If you haven’t heard yet, the Grizzlies made it public that they aren’t bringing Brooks back “under any circumstance.”
And the news came out pretty quickly, too. They must have told him their decision during the end-of-season exit meetings and reported it to the entire NBA world shortly after, which was a bad move.
Why couldn’t they have told him and then not broadcast it? They could’ve just let free agency organically announce it for them.
But no, they went out and shamed Brooks by telling the entire NBA world, which now makes them the bad guy.
And honestly, I kinda feel bad for him -I still dislike him- but I feel sorry for how he’s being treated by this club that he was “ride-or-die” for.
They didn’t have to embarrass him like that -he was already embarrassing himself enough with all of his shenanigans.
So, what does the future hold for Brooks?
I think he’s going to be alright (with one caveat). There are a lot of teams in the league that can use his skill set.
He’s a fantastic defender and can knock down the 3. But he needs to talk less.
His smack talk last season may have set the tone for his teammates, but it hurt the organization. He was bad for their business.
The Grizzlies became the most disliked team mainly because of how he behaved.
So, if he wants to join another team for the long haul, he needs to tone it down and confine his intensity to the hardwood. He needs to stop poking old bears post-game.
He just needs to play basketball.
