The NBA Should Bring Back The 2Ball Competition
Remember when the NBA All-Star Challenge had 2Ball?
If you’re not a 90s kid, you probably don’t know what 2Ball is.
But back in my day (like the late 90s and early 2000s), it was one the most exciting competitions at the NBA All-Star Saturday Night.
It was this shooting competition that paired the best shooters from the NBA and the WNBA. The pairs had to take shots from markers -which had points on them- and the duo with the most points won.
The 2Ball challenge replaced the Dunk Contest in 1998 because the dunks were getting stagnant and it lasted until 2001. In 2002, the NBA swapped 2Ball with the Hoop-It-Up tournament.
Despite its short existence, 2Ball was really entertaining to watch.
The excitement you get from it is similar to how exciting the 3-point contest is. And that can get really suspenseful when 2 of the greatest shooters square off against each other (i.e. Steph Curry vs. Klay Thomson back in 2015).
Anyway, I think the NBA should bring it back. It was a fun competition to watch and 2Ball’s addition can break that routine feeling of the event, where everything feels the same and repeated.
It can be that new (even though it’s old) contest that they can hype up to rouse fans.
But my wishes probably won’t happen.
However, your wishes can. If this game sounds interesting to you, and you wish you can learn how to play, then check out this 2Ball tutorial here.
