If you’re a fan of basketball in any capacity, you were probably anxiously waiting to watch the Golden State Warriors Klay Thompson play on Sunday.
I sure was.
And, boy did he not disappoint.
Klay put the league on notice as he murked his opponents, the Cleveland Cavaliers, from start to end.
He did everything you would expect him to do. He cut, screened, and sank 3s.
He even posterized two defenders, which hyped up his entire team as well as the entire arena.
By the game’s end, he tallied 17 points on 38 percent shooting. He made 3 3-pointers and even recorded a block.
Obviously, he isn’t fully back to his old self yet. Klay was sidelined for nearly 2.5 years with some pretty serious leg injuries (ACL and Achilles tears).
But this showing was impressive nonetheless.
He looked spry and geared in. And more importantly, he looked like he was having fun on the court with his best mates, Steph Curry and Draymond Green.
And that’s bad news for the rest of the league. Really bad news.
Just look at the damage the team was doing sans Klay (29-9 record).
Now that he is back, Steph doesn’t have to over-exert himself every game because the team has another elite go-to scorer.
Additionally, their bench got stronger too because Jordan Poole moved down to the bench.
And Andrew Wiggins is still on the team. He’ll continue to be the Warrior’s resident slasher and 3-and-D guy.
They just have more options on offence now (and their defence isn’t negatively affected by it), which is crazy because they were already a stellar offensive team!
Final Thoughts
I’m not going to go off and predict that the Warriors will win the title this season (although the probability is really high). I need to see more games.
I’m also biased and am rooting for a different team.
However, I do believe that they are going to be a threat and will go deep in the playoffs.
But what are your thoughts? Do you think the Golden State Warriors will be crowned the 2022 NBA Champions?
