The moment the NBA Finals wrapped up, the NBA draft and free agency splattered onto our attention.
So much happened in a short period of time.
And since you most likely missed something (let’s hope you did or this article is just a complete waste of everybody’s time), here’s a quick summary of the things that went down this week:
The Phoenix Suns announced that they’re going to waive Chris Paul, then came back shortly thereafter and said they’re trading him to the Washington Wizards for Bradley Beal. Then, in a no-one-expected-it trade, the Wizards traded CP3 to the Golden State Warriors for Jordan Poole.
The Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green declined his player option and is entering free agency. Will he stay or will he leave the team he helped turn into a dynasty?
3-time Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams has retired after playing 17 seasons in the NBA. He last played in 2021-22 with the Atlanta Hawks.
The Toronto Raptors’ Gary Trent, Jr. accepted his $18.5 million player option and will be running it back with the Raptors for at least one more season. He averaged 17 points and 1.6 steals last season.
Kyle Kuzma, who played for the Washington Wizards the past two seasons declined his player option. He averaged career high in points last season (21.2 points) and is slated to be one of the most sought-after free agents this year.
Ja Morant will be suspended for 25 games for brandishing a gun on social media. But the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) believe the punishment is excessive and said they will “explore with Ja all options and next steps.”
Chris Paul’s memoir, Sixty-One: Life Lessons from Papa, On and Off the Court (Amazon affiliate link), was released this week. In it, he talks about his relationship with his grandfather and how the lessons he taught him made him who he is today. Also, on a side note, during his book tour, he found out he was traded to the Washington Wizards.
A blockbuster trade involving the Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Clippers fell through. The Clippers were concerned with Brogdon’s injury status. However, a few hours later, a new trade was conjured. The trade involves the Celtics, Wizards, and Memphis Grizzlies.
Victor Wembenyama went first in the NBA draft (San Antonio Spurs), Brandon Miller went second (Charlotte Hornets), and Scoot Henderson went third (Portland Trailblazers).
Fan favourite Grady Dick was drafted by the Toronto Raptors with the thirteenth overall pick.
Annnnnd there you have it.
