Here is a curation of all of the social media posts I posted this week (a combination of NBA trivia and facts) and some interesting quotes I’ve read.
Enjoy!
But before we get to the recap, here are the stories I published this week:
1.
The San Antonio Spurs became the 11th NBA team to achieve this feat on Mar. 31 in 1996.
What did they do?
Still can’t figure it out?
Okay, I’ll tell you.
The Spurs became the 11th NBA team to go unbeaten in over a month.
Between Feb. 29, 1996 and Mar. 31, 1996, they won 17 straight games.
The Spurs went 59-23 that season and were the second seed in the Western Conference.
2.
One of the best pranks in the NBA occurred early in the 2008 NBA season, when San Antonio Spurs’ head coach Gregg Popovich got one of his players to foul Shaquille O’Neal early in the first quarter.
Shaq had said that Hack-a-Shaq was a cowardly tactic and to prove he didn’t care, the legendary coach implemented it in the first play of the game.
Popovich just looked over to Shaq after the whistle blew and raised two thumbs up as he laughed at the situation.
3.
The Orlando Magic may have lost badly on April 2, 1994 but their star center, Shaquille O’Neal, had himself a game.
He scored 36 points on 65% shooting, rebounded 17 boards and denied 4 shots.
His rookie sidekick, Penny Hardaway, also played well. He recorded 22 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds.
But it wasn’t enough to beat the Indiana Pacers, who took the game 128-113.
Pacers Top Performers:
Reggie Miller: 38 points.
Rik Smits: 26 points.
Haywoode Workman: 12 points and 15 assists.
4.
THE VANCOUVER GRIZZLIES HAVE BROKEN THEIR LOSING STREAK.
On April 3, 1996, the Grizzlies washed off some bad juju and defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 105-103 to end their record 23-game losing streak.
Bryant Reeves recorded 28 points and 7 rebounds; Blue Edwards recorded 24 points and 6 steals; and Ashraf Amaya recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
Vancouver won a total of 12 games this season.
5.
Not that anyone cares, but on April 4, 2002, the San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker had a mediocre game.
The rookie recorded 13 points on 60 percent shooting and 7 assists in a dominant win over the Houston Rockets (102-78).
I did say it wasn’t special.
6.
On April 5, 2009, a 35-year-old Jason Kidd dished out 16 assists in the first half of a game against the Phoenix Suns, setting a Dallas Mavericks’ record.
By the end of the game, he racked up 20 assists, enough to surpass Magic Johnson for the 3rd most leader in assists.
