Zion’s Been Training! (And Dieting)
Zion Williamson is apparently more athletic than before with his new workout and nutrition plan.
Zion Williamson is the most explosive player in the world.
However, this isn’t necessarily a good thing as his playstyle -along with his heavy weight- has caused him to miss many games due to various lower-body injuries.
In his rookie season, he was held to 24 games because of a knee injury. Then, in his sophomore year, he was held to 61 games due to nagging injuries.
Then, in the offseason of 2021, he suffered his worst injury yet. Zion injured his foot working out and had to get surgery on it, causing him to miss the entirety of the 2021-22 NBA season.
But this time off was necessary. It allowed Zion and his trainers to figure out how they can make him more durable and healthy.
One of the things they came up with is keeping his weight down.
In his most recent contract, there is a stipulation where the one-time All-Star has to keep his weight and body fat percentage below a combined 295.
The team will monitor this by having him do weigh-ins throughout the duration of his contract.
Another thing he did this offseason to get back into fighting form was working out hard.
According to his strength and conditioning coach, Jasper Bibbs, who spoke to The Athletic, Zion spent eight weeks with him in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “executing a meticulously laid plan.”
Bibbs also said that Zion is in the best shape in his career and is more athletic than before (which is a pretty scary thought if you think about it because Zion was already a freak athlete).
Via SLAM:
“We also focused on improving his overall fitness. The more weight he carries around, the more stress it puts on the body. We focused on aerobic and anaerobic basketball-specific conditioning. One of the main goals was to get Zion back to the same athletic ability he had before the injury. In the process, he’s improved athletically. I truly think he’s a better athlete now than he was before. Once you guys see him on the court, I think you’ll agree.”
Final Thoughts
Zion is an exciting player and his absence was definitely felt last season.
Let’s hope this new training regimen and nutrition plan will keep him in tip-top shape so that he can head the top plays every week again.

The fate of the West may rest with a trio of returning stars

Quote of the Week
“People in Philly just wanna have something to say about f*cking anything, man. Like, everything, literally everything. I post a picture of a f*cking dog or car, I got reporters saying, ‘You should be in the f*cking gym.’ Come on, man. But, yeah, for sure, Philly is obviously a sports city, and my experience playing there was incredible. Like, for the most part, it was incredible. I had a great time, the fans are unbelievable… But yeah, it’s just unique.”
