KD Shares Why Zion Is A Special Player
Kevin Durant broke down why he thinks Zion Williamson is a special talent.
Kevin Durant believes Zion Williamson is a "one-of-one" player.
He told reporters that there have been many players in the past of Zion’s size that played big.
But what makes the power forward special is his mobility and jumping ability.
Via ESPN:
"You've seen guys at that size, 6'7, that can get up and down the floor and move, but not at that level though," Durant said after Monday's practice. "You've seen guys like Jason Maxiell's, I'm not saying they jump as high as Zion but they were undersized guys that played bigger. And Zion's one of those guys. Rodney Rogers -- I'm missing so many guys that were that tall at 6'6, Charles Barkley bruiser type guys but played bigger. But Zion's athleticism trumps all of theirs by far. And when you add that to the mix it makes him a one of one."
Durant knows basketball.
He’s studied and annihilated the best players in the world while on his way to winning an MVP award and two Finals MVP awards.
He’s also studied the game of basketball at large, possessing knowledge about its roots and evolution.
This is why his praise of Zion has weight (pun not intended).
Zion was absent all of last season due to injury and rehab.
But when he returned earlier this year for the preseason, it didn’t look like he missed a step. As matter of fact, he looked more skilled than before.
However, it was just preseason.
Players aren’t as intense and aggressive, especially on defense, and they also don’t play that many minutes.
Thus, how Zion will play during the regular season remains to be seen.
But if Durant is right in his assessment and Zion’s preseason performance is true to his actual form, this is going to be one hell of a season for Zanos (which is really good for basketball fans).
Pssst…
