Ok, two things I want to talk about in today’s newsletter.
The first is about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was voted Canada’s best athlete.
On Monday, he received the Northern Star Award, beating out a handful of other Canadian athletes, such as Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid, golfer and Canadian Open champion Nick Taylor, hammer thrower Camryn Rogers and swimmer Summer McIntosh.
Does this mean basketball is the superior sport? Not trying to trigger anyone. Just a question.
Shai’s year has been nothing short of phenomenal.
Last season, he was voted to be on the NBA All-Star team and the All-NBA First Team.
He averaged 31 points on 51 percent shooting per game and this season -thus far at least- he’s picking up where he left off.
In 21 games, he’s putting up MVP numbers with 30 points on 55 percent shooting, 6 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 steals.
The last basketball player to receive this award was Steve Nash.
Giannis Was Ready To Fight
The second thing I want to talk about is how scary Giannis Antetokounmpo is when offended.
On Wednesday, the former MVP set a new Milwaukee Bucks’ scoring record with 64 points.
He worked hard to beat the record Michael Redd set in 2006 (57 points). As he approached the 58-point mark, you can see Giannis forcing down attacks to score more points.
After the game ended, he wanted the game ball to commemorate his achievement.
But the Indiana Pacers took it and the act offended Giannis, who unleashed his inner Ares.
The Greek Freak, who is pretty mellow when not playing basketball, was going to fight every single Pacers until he got the ball back.
He started by berating Tyrese Haliburton.
Once he found out that the opposing team took the ball, he stormed through the tunnel to yell at the Pacers’ players for taking his game ball.
The whole thing was eventually resolved.
But I’ve never seen him that mad before. He was angry and it was scary.
So, don’t mess with him.
