It was early in 2000, I was a young teenager who had recently survived Y2K and I had just witnessed the most amazing dunk contest ever (albeit it was the first one I watched).
It was a brawl of dunks between Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Steve Francis, Larry Hughes, Ricky Davis and Jerry Stackhouse.
All of the competitors were athletic and were able to throw down, but Carter was something different.
He was not only explosive but was also agile and creative.
He showcased never-before-seen dunks (like the bounce-pass-between-the-legs one) and won the 2000 Dunk Contest by a landslide.
It was wild.
Anyway, I tell this story to bring up a question I’ve been pondering: If all of the dunk champions competed against each other, who would win?
I’ve been thinking about this because Vince Carter recently went on Taylor Rooks X and said that he would beat Michael Jordan in a dunk contest.
“I’m winning. I don’t know how. I’m winning.”
Though I didn’t watch Jordan’s, Julius Erving’s or Dominique Wilkins’ dunk contests live, I have seen clips and highlights of them and they were good.
But were they Carter’s good?
No, I still think Vinsanity’s was better. I’ll even go as far as saying that he would beat them in a contest, regardless of which rules are used. He has all of the tools to be a talented dunker.
But what do you think? Share your opinion in the poll below.
